The exhibition Passages engages in multiple ways with the notion of transition and movement (from the French passage). In both our environment and in nature, we are at times confronted with disruptive events that compel us to act differently.
Climatic changes, illness, and armed conflicts force us not only to reconsider individual actions, but to fundamentally reassess and adapt our attitudes as a whole. In this sense, the exhibition reflects on social and political processes of transformation and upheaval, as well as on ritual transitions and threshold experiences in personal life.
Artists have long grappled with change, continually developing new visual languages to articulate it. In this context, the chosen materials themselves can embody a “passage,” as existing objects are transformed—altered in their condition or reconfigured—and thereby imbued with new meaning.
