Re21Lettres (Performance)
Photo-Intervention: A Performative Evening on Photography
Conceived in response to the exhibition of the mail art project 21.lettres.a.la.photographie@gmx.de at Museum Folkwang, Essen, the performance extends the public dialogue initiated by the exhibition while engaging with central aspects of 21.lettres, particularly its principle of anonymity.
Bringing together nine participants, along with an office photocopier, cameras, a scanner, and various other tools, the performance unfolded as a highly structured image-production process. In this setting, reply mails to 21.lettres were collectively generated, transforming the space into a performative production line that reflects the aesthetic and operational logics of contemporary working environments.
To date, re:21.lettres has produced and sent a total of 18 mailings. The project was realized as part of the collective re:21.lettres.a.la.photographie@gmx.net in collaboration with Thomas Seelig, Pencil Quincy, and Sophie-Charlotte Opitz. Curated by Alexander Hagmann, Paula Markert, and Irina Ruppert.
